I live in a place near college called Brevard Place (BP). Here we live in four people, Me, Antonio, Sam, and Francesco. Antonio is also from Brazil, so sometimes he helps me with some issues. Francesco is from Brescia, Italy. He is nice too, now he is teaching me how to cook some Italian foods. This is very nice because I am an Italian descendent. My other roommate is Sam, he is from North Ireland. He is majoring in the same major like me, and we have a class together. He likes to play golf, maybe I will go with him one day!

All of us play on the soccer team. I have a good relationship with all of them. When I arrived here all of them tried to help me to get used to America. Sometimes we do a food day in the apartment. On this day we choose one person to cook food from your country. Last week we did stroganoff. It is a pretty good Brazilian plate, they liked it a lot! Hopefully, we can go to other people's countries to understand even more about other cultures.

Today I will talk about an unexpected experience I had this week. My college allowed juniors and seniors of attending to an etiquette dinner. First of all, I did not like the idea. However, I was talking to one of my roommates, and he liked the idea. At first, I did not understand why the college was offering that, but they gave us a good explanation. A lot of job interviews are conducted in restaurants, and if we learn these skills we would have a different thing that can help us to get good jobs.

The dinner was very nice. I ate some really good food and met new people in college. To start, we had tomato basil soup, the salad had blueberries, feta cheese, and candied pecans. The intermezzo was lemon sorbet with mint. Finally, the main course was airplane chicken breast, mushroom potatoes, asparagus, and long-stemmed carrots. The dessert was a good strawberry layered cake. I really liked that day. It was a nice night where I could learn a lot of new things.

This week I had my biggest experience related to cold. I have never seen weather so cold like this week. I do not know in Fahrenheit, but in Celsius, I had experienced a temperature feeling like -2. It was freezing! In Brazil, after twenty-two years there I did not see weather like this. However, it was an interesting experience! The only part that was not so nice was working late at night. Usually, I ride my bike, and it is ok. However, with this cold, my hands were freezing! I was wearing two hoodies and one snow jacket to be warm. Now, I learned my lesson! Today I bought a pair of gloves to make my ride to school easier. The first photo shows us how cold it was. We threw out the ice the night before, but in the morning of the next day, the ice was still there!

The ice the next day.

A bit of ice on Igor's car.

This semester I have had the opportunity to celebrate my first Halloween! It was so different and nice! We do not have anything similar in Brazil. It was a great opportunity to discover and understand more about the American culture. I wish I have more celebrations dates like this one to understand how things work here! Talking about my experience I do not have anything to complain about! It was nice to walk on the street and see kids asking for candies, the house's decoration, other people's costumes, everything was new and nice for me. Unfortunately, I was not wearing a nice costume. However, now that I know that everyone wear costume here I can prepare myself better for the next year. In Brazil, we have some Halloween parties, but nothing compared to the people asking for candies and the houses' decorations. I recommend you to wear a costume and see how nice it is!

Yesterday we had our first and last playoff game. We left Brevard at 9:30 on Friday towards Raleigh, North Carolina. The trip was not the longest one, but one nice fact is that we stopped in a soccer complex to practice, since our game would be just Saturday. We arrived at the Soccer Complex at 2 pm, where we played against ourselves and tried some penalty kicks. After that, we went to a very nice hotel in Raleigh. I divided my bedroom with Adan. We went to have dinner in a buffet, the food was very good too! One of the bests I have tried here in the US. On Saturday, we woke up and had breakfast. After that, we went directly to the game. Unfortunately, we lost in the first half of the overtime. It was not the result that we were expecting, but even the best team in the world cannot win all matches.

The photo below was taken at the Soccer Complex. BC Men's soccer family!

How I said here before, I work in the cafeteria. Usually, I work only in the cafeteria on the lines, making pizzas, or at late night. However, during the Fall Break, we had a different job to do. We had to organize a lunch for the president and his wife. It was very nice, I worked as a server and I met some nice people there. Other people were working with me, it was: Mario, Marcos, Igor, Sarj, Talita, and other guys from the kitchen. The food was very good. II ate meat, risotto, shrimp, and crab! I hope we have another gathering like this. It was very nice!
Every time that I work in a gathering like this, I learn something new, and with this one, it was not different. I attached some photos to show how big the place was.

Post #6 New friends in America

I have been here in the US for two months. At this time I made a lot of new friends. I will talk about them here. I put a photo below showing one of the days that we went to celebrate Gar's birthday. However, it was not all my friends that could attend this event. The majority of them are Brazilian because my English is not so good. However, I made some new good friends that do not speak Portuguese like Noah, Francesco, Sam, Tino, Inigo, Dillon, Rocco, and other guys from the soccer team.

I am still learning a lot of words here and how the American culture is so different! For me, the hardest part is the slang. Sometimes they speak so fast and with a lot of slang that I cannot understand everything. I can speak a little bit of Spanish. However, for me is easier to talk in English.

I liked this photo because it was a nice day with my new friends!
